It almost goes without saying that you should not start business within a trade or area of experience that you are unfamiliar with.
If you have to start out gaining basic knowledge about your service or product along with getting the grip of running a business it will soon become an almost insuperable task.
There are a lot of aspects of professionalism in handling the service or product you plan to market.
E.g.:
Education
It is a great advantage if there is an educational foundation of the competences in the company.
If you plan to start a web design business it is obviously an advantage if you possess an education within graphics or IT. Usually, an education enhances the quality of the work carried out.
In most cases there are no educational requirements for starting business. To start out as a general practitioner, sewerage contractor, electrician or certified translator requires specialized education.
Practical experience
If you can add several years’ practical experience within the field it will take the competence to an even higher level.
Life Experience
Life experience and spare time activities are also important parameters to revive when starting business.
If you grew up as the son of a grocer you are likely to have worked up a proficiency in customer relations and life as self-employed. If you have been into yachting all your life it is not of crucial importance that your education is not related to yachting if you want to sell boat equipment on the Internet.
Management Experience
If you have been chairman of the pupils’ council, a soccer coach, have organised scout excursions or work camps for an international youth exchange organisation, you have, through this work, built up a skillfulness in managing complex activities. An important competence to possess when starting up and running business.
Bear in mind: Your entire life is an accumulation of resources to be used in making business progress!
