The Danish Act on Protection against the Consequences of Industrial Injuries lays down that any employer employing persons - paid or unpaid - in excess of 20 hours annually, must provide protection for such persons against the consequences of industrial injuries.
An industrial injury insurance is taken out with an insurance company.
Insurance premium Buying insurance you must pay an insurance premium at the beginning of the period of the policy based on the expected number of employees for the period. On expiry of the period of the policy the insurance premium is adjusted to reflect the actual number of employees.
Proprietor In a proprietorship neither the proprietor nor his/her assisting spouse are covered. A proprietor and an assisting spouse must protect themselves by taking out personal accident insurance.
In a Ltd or a Plc. the owner as well as co-owning spouse are covered.
Fine An employer who fails to take out industrial injury insurance shall be punished by fine and must pay full compensation to any injured parties on the occurence of industrial injury. Injured parties will be automatically compensated by a joint scheme, but the joint scheme directs a claim for payment to the employer.
