Starting a polluting business is subject to environmental approval.
Environmental Protection Act The objective of the Danish Environmental Protection Act is to protect the nature and environment, allowing a sustainable social development in respect of human living conditions and preservation of wildlife and vegetation. The primary objective is to:
- Prevent and combat pollution of air, water, soil, and subsoil as well as vibration and noise nuisances.
- Formulate hygienically substantiated rules significant to the environment and to humans
- Limit depletion and waste of raw materials and other resources
- Promote application of non-polluting technologies
- Increase recycling and limit waste disposal problems
Businesses in focus Below are examples of businesses subject to the municipality´s environmental approval:
- Garages - in order to prevent oil from leaking into the sewer
- Printing works - due to solvents
- Vehicle dismantling - due to oil leakages from old cars
- Large live stock - due to obnoxious smells and water table pollution risk
